چکیده

---There has been escalation in alcohol abuse with an enormous increase in alcohol-related gastrointestinal tract disorders. The study was conducted to evaluate the role of zinc on intestine of rats under ethanol toxicity. Rats were segregated into four groups: Control, Ethanol treated, Zinc treated and Combined zinc and ethanol treated. 1ml of 30% ethanol was given to rats orally everyday. Zinc (as zinc sulphate; 227mg/L) was mixed in drinking water of animals. All treatments were given for 2, 4 and 8 weeks and activities of drug metabolising enzymes i.e Cytochrome P450, Cytochrome b5, NADPH and NADH cytochrome-Creductase and Glutathione-stransferase were estimated. Significant elevation was observed in the activities of all enzymes in intestine in response to toxicity induced by ethanol after all intervals. Zinc supplementation resulted in normalization of these values. This may be due to its antioxidant potential which provides protection against the toxic effects of ethanol. Influence of zinc on the status of hepatic trace elements and biokinetics of 65Zn in ethanol treated rats.

Whole body counting studies of 65Zn indicated that the Tb1 (the faster component) was significantly decreased while the slower component (Tb2) was increased significantly following ethanol treatment. Interestingly, following zinc treatment to ethanol treated rats, slower component (Tb2) of 65Zn came back to within normal limits while the faster component (Tb1) got significantly elevated in comp...

Paradoxical Regulation of Copper and Zinc and Changes in Neurogenesis, Alcohol Preference and Salt Appetite in Isolated Male Rats

Background and Aims: Alcohol abuse is an important concern of many societies. Hippocampal neurogenesis regulates abusing drugs in a positive manner. The aim of this study was to identify factors that regulate neurogenesis in isolation period that increase preference for alcohol and salt. Materials and Methods: In this study sixteen rats were randomly divided into two groups: Pair (social) an...

Social interaction and partner familiarity differentially alter voluntary ethanol intake in adolescent male and female rats.

Alcohol readily facilitates social interactions and this effect plays an important role in adolescent drinking behaviors. The ability of social interaction to alter behaviors in response to alcohol in adolescent animals has been assessed using the demonstrator-observer paradigm. The demonstrator is exposed to ethanol and the observer is tested for changes in behaviors in response to ethanol aft...

Postnatal development of alcohol dehydrogenase in liver and intestine of rats exposed to ethanol in utero.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Ethanol exposure during gestation induces marked aberrations in growth and development of offsprings collectively known as foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS);. However, its effects on the postnatal development of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) are not adequately investigated. Therefore, ADH activity in liver and intestine of rats exposed to ethanol during gestation was studied...

Hormones in the Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat

In young (4-week-old) male and female spontaneously hypertensive (SH) rats, ethanol metabolic rate in vivo and hepatic alcohol dehydrogenase activity in vitro are high and not different in the two sexes. In males, ethanol metabolic rate falls markedly between 4 and 10 weeks of age, which coincides with the time of development of sexual maturity in the rat. Alcohol dehydrogenase activity is also...
